Last May 4th and 5th, within the framework of project “C7 West Africa” the Fondazione Accademia Italiana della Marina Mercantile (FAIMM) and the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU) have jointly held an advocacy event and cooperative workshop about the impact of climate change and environmental degradation on conflict and security in coastal communities of the country.
The project has been implementing, during late 2022 and early 2023, an awareness raising campaign across Nigerian Security Agencies, visiting several agencies including the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Police and Marine Police, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Force, the Federal Fire service.
C7-WA experts have implemented visits and meetings with top managers of the agencies, presenting the interim results of the C7 project. The culmination of this path has been represented by the event to held in Yenagoa on the 4th and 5th of May 2023.
The event has set the stage for the launch of a capacity building and training programme for the target security agencies, which will start during Summer 2023.
